How to fix ILO problems for HP Servers?

ILO – Integrated Lights Out 2, it is a piece of software that comes with ILO Card. ILO card is a PCI card, which enables remote console connectivity for the HP server. Lets see how to fix ILO problems for HP Servers.

Normally we can access our systems remotely using mstsc client or putty or securecrt or other clients. That means we are connecting to the servers remotely when there is a situation like OS is already installed and network also configured on them. But the limitation is here that, we are not able to access/see the server at the POST/BIOS stage. To overcome this situation and as remote support became more popular these days, every hardware vendor is providing a special interface card with their servers to access it remotely at the BIOS stage also.

Lets see how to configure it now….

1. Power on the server and press F8 once, to go into ILO console configuration page. The config page looks like this.

2. Here what you are seeing above is the User Configuration page, but please identify that there are other tabs also beside it.

3. In the Network tab, you are able to configure the IP settings and network speed etc.

4. In the settings tab you have some options for Serial Connections.

5. From your standpoint, if you are set everything correctly and still if its not working check the cabling for this card, whether it is connected to correct switch with good cable and confirm whether the VLAN for this port is trunked or not etc.

6. If everything, each and every setting configured correctly, you able to access the ILO card configuration from the web interface (i.e from a web browser) by pointing to its IP. And you can give the console session access to remote user.

Just a reference video, how it works….

NOTE : The speed for ILO card is always 100MBPS/FULL. MOSTLY ALL THE HP SERVER MODELS ARE COMING WITH ILO CARDS. HP DL380G4,HP DL380G5 ,HP DL380G6, HP DL580G5, HP DL585G6, HP BLADES.
