Windows : Playing with FSMO roles : Seizing

This is one of the best questions in interviews. There is lot of difference between Seizing and Transferring FSMO roles. We initiate Seizing procedure when the primary or the role holder completely goes offline and not available in the network. By doing so, we can move the FSMO roles from the dead server to a living server forcefully. Remember seizing the roles happens when the role holder is dead only. Where as transferring happens when both primary and secondary are online. We can seize the roles from command line using NTDSUTIL.

Below videos shows how this process goes..

In the next article, we will discuss about transferring roles using CLI and GUI.
